Have you ever looked up into the sky, perhaps on a dark night, and thought, “Do Aliens Exist?”
Hard Questions: “Do Aliens Exist?”
Let us first define "aliens" as:
“beings capable of making moral choices, having intellect, emotion, and a will.”
Maybe you have wondered like me, What has God been doing for eternity? Has He ever created other life forms outside of our universe? Perhaps there is another planet right now with aliens?
So, Do Aliens Exist?
Now, let's consider some scientific facts:
1. Observation of Other Planets
Our Solar System
Men have sent spacecraft to nearly every planet in our solar system. After observing these planets, we have ruled out all but Mars and possibly a moon of Jupiter as being able to support life.
Other Solar Systems
NASA has discovered more than 5,000 planets outside of our solar system that are many lightyears away – but so far, Earth is the only one that appears to have the right conditions for human life.
Some propose that the existence of so many planets proves that there must be life somewhere else in the universe.
The fact is that none of these has ever been proven to be anything close to a life-supporting planet.
The tremendous distance between Earth and these planets makes it impossible to make any judgments regarding their ability to sustain life. Knowing that Earth alone supports life in our solar system, evolutionists want very badly to find another planet in another solar system to support the notion that life must have evolved.
There are many other planets out there, but we certainly do not know enough about them to verify that they could support life.
2. Mars Research
In 1976, the U.S.A. sent two landers to Mars. Each had instruments that could dig into the Martian sand and analyze it for any sign of life.
In 1997, the U.S.A. sent Pathfinder to the surface of Mars. This rover took more samples and conducted many more experiments. It also found absolutely no sign of life.
In 2012 Curiosity landed on Mars to look for life.
In 2021, the most advanced Rover to date, the 2.7 billion dollar Perseverance, has been roaming the surface of Mars with one main goal: Evidence of life. Even the smallest of micro-organisms. and even something called Biosignatures=signs of possible past microbial life
All these missions found absolutely nothing.
In contrast, if you analyzed soil from the most barren desert on earth or the most frozen dirt in Antarctica, you would find it teeming with micro-organisms.
So, what does the Bible say?
A. Genesis Account
Turn to Genesis 1:1 “1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
The word Heaven here means the sky beyond our earth. That is the universe.
It’s important to note he started with the earth and will build everything around it.
It’s almost as if this is the center of God’s creation.
So on the first day, God created the universe and the earth.
So no life has been created up until this point. (There’s no planets for life)
Just a big vast space, and an ugly little dark, wet planet.
Genesis 1:2 “2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Then He creates light:
Genesis 1:3 “3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
It’s usually pretty hard to have life without light!
So That’s Day One
Day 2-3 he creates the firmament, the dry land, the oceans, grass and trees
Then on day 4:
(Read) Genesis 1:14-19
God created the Sun, moon, stars, (and probably the other planets)
vs 17 -it seems that the entire purpose for the sun, moon, and stars was “to give light upon the earth” and vs. 14 “to divide the day from the night and for “signs, seasons, and years”
It seems that through all of creation, God had this planet in mind, not any other planets
Genesis 1:26 “26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
First mention of “Man.”
God wanted to make this creation different than all others.
Genesis 2:7 KJV - 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Soul= “having a moral choices, having intellect, emotion, and a will.”
BTW this is the human trinity. Body, Spirit, Soul.
Based on the Genesis record, it does not seem probable that God created another planet with sentient life on it.
B. Acts 17 account
Now let’s look at one of the best verses regarding this subject, Do Aliens Exist?:
Acts 17:24-26 “24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;”
So…God made everything, and giveth all life. (One reason I don’t believe in the Gap theory)
Also, God made us all out of one blood (one race) (This verse should destroy racism)
Also, where do men dwell: on the face of the earth.
And God has predetermined the times (beginning and end)
God has also determined the “bounds of our habitation”
Sorry Elon Musk, God has determined that human life has a boundary. (Probably the earth)
C. The Problem of Sin and Aliens
Originally, mankind was without sin, and everything in the world was "very good"
Genesis 1:31 “31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
When the first man sinned (Genesis 3), the result was problems of all sorts, including sickness and death.
Even though animals have no personal sin before God (they are not moral beings), they still suffer and die
Romans 8:22 “22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”
Jesus Christ died to remove the punishment that we deserve for our sin. When He returns, He will undo the curse that has existed since Adam (Revelation 21-22).
Note that Romans 8:22 (already read) states that all of creation eagerly waits for this time.
It is important to also note that Christ came to die for mankind and that He died only once:
Hebrews 7:27 “27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.”
Hebrews 9:26-28 “26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: 28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
Hebrews 10:10 “10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
If all of creation now suffers under the curse, any life apart from the earth would also suffer.
If, for the sake of argument, moral beings do exist on other planets, then they also suffer; and if not now, then someday they will surely suffer when everything passes away with a great noise and the elements melt with fervent heat
2 Peter 3:10 “10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
If they had never sinned, then God would be unjust in punishing them. But if they had sinned, and Christ could die only once (which He did on earth), then they are left in their sin, which would also be contrary to the character of God.
2 Peter 3:9 “9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
This leaves us with an unsolvable paradox—unless, of course, there are no moral beings outside of the earth.
What about non-moral and non-sentient life forms on other planets?
Could algae or even dogs and cats be present on an unknown planet?
Presumably so, and it would not have any contradictions to the biblical text.
But it would certainly prove problematic when trying to answer questions like “Since all of creation suffers, what purpose would God have in creating non-moral and non-sentient creatures to suffer on distant planets?”
Conclusion
The Bible gives us no reason to believe that there is life elsewhere in the universe.
In fact, the Bible gives us several key reasons why there cannot be.
Yes, there are many strange and unexplainable things that take place.
There is no reason, though, to attribute these phenomena to aliens or UFOs.
If there is a discernible cause to these supposed events, it is likely to be spiritual, and more specifically, demonic, in origin.
